09/21 - UPdate

Peter had his first doctor visit in over a month today and his counts were great. His platelets were at 491,000 and all the rest of his counts were in the normal range as well.  His platelets are doing so well, in fact, that his platelets are now on the _high_ side of normal! We were also glad because today was the first blood draw at the pediatrician's office instead of the Hospital and everything went smoothly. It has usually been a challenge for the nurses to get the needle into his little veins, but the nurse at the pediatrician's office got it on the first try and Peter toughed it out like a little champ. So that is a blessing.

Today I have also been reflecting on how far we have come on this road.  I am keeping a spreadsheet with all of Peters counts and it was jarring to see how the first ten blood tests he had, his counts were <15,000 and now they are >400,000.  I almost feel like "wait, did that really happen?" It seems like somebody else's life.

Going forward, it looks like the medicine Peter is on is doing its job very well and he's showing no bad side effects from it. Assuming his counts remain good, we will be staying the course and keeping him on this medication until his first birthday in March.  Thanks to all for your support and we'll keep you posted about his (increasingly less frequent) doctor's visits.
