Thanks to everyone who has sent us good wishes and prayer support. I just wanted to give a quick update on Peter.
The lab results this morning were disappointing for us. We had been hoping that because of the immunoglobulin (IgG) his platelet count would go up. This would have been comforting both because it would mean he is getting better and it would mean that he has the more easily treated form of TP. Unfortunately, his platelet count was just as low this morning as it had been. What is worse, his red blood cell count was also down. It was not as bad as his platelets (a normal hemoglobin count from red blood cells would be 12 g/dl and Peter's at 7 g/dl) but the doctors were concerned enough about that that they gave him a transfusion this morning. Needless to say it was not a happy morning for us. But God is good. Peter continues to be without any evident pain, he smiles at us, watches his mobile. He's still OK.
The doctors went ahead and did the bone marrow draw this afternoon to try to find out if his body is producing platelets. Peter came out of that a couple of hours ago and he is doing fine (praise God!). The nurses tell us that there should not be a lot of residual pain (most kids who can talk describe the postoperative sensation as felling like you got kicked in the but). His main complaint afterward was hunger - we weren't allowed to feed him for 5 hours before the bone marrow draw and so when he woke up from the anesthesia, he was starving! Fortunately, that was something we could fix and now he is doing just fine.
Thankfully, my mom was able to fly in last night to be with Lydia and so Elisa and I have been able to spend a lot of time together with Peter today. And once again, we are waiting. We should get some initial results on the bone marrow any time now and then we'll have some more conversations with the doctors and figure out the next steps. In the meantime please join us in praying that Peter's platelet count will go up soon and that God will continue to protect him.
